Hi there, In this quick article, I’ll show you how to Generate a Self Signed SSL Certificate on CentOS 8.
SSL is the protocol used to encrypt data transfer between server and client. To implement SSL, we need an SSL certificate file. Normally this is issued by a third-party company called “Certificate Authority”. But It’s possible to generate an SSL certificate by yourself and Its know as “Self Signed SSL Certificate”. Let’s move for steps to generate it.
We’ll use an open-source tool called “OpenSSL” for this task. The knowledge about public-key cryptography is required to understand the entire process. Follow the below steps carefully to generate an SSL certificate file.
1.Use the following Command to generate a self signed certificate
openssl req -x509 -nodes -keyout private.key -days 180 -out certificate.cer -newkey rsa:2048
Answer the prompted questions after execute the above command.
Now you can see the certificate and key file in your current directory.
